Waterford Estate – Modernist White Castle On Lake Erie

The Waterford Estate is a stunning 160 arce Shangri-La on Lake Erie in Vermilion, Ohio with 2,300 of waterfront, its own private beach and a marina. Built in 1991, the immaculately landscaped property was owned by the late Donald Brown, the inventor of the drop ceiling.

Designed by architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen, the home is a series of concrete “pods” connected by glass corridors. Some of the unique features of the property include a heliport, a airplane hangar, and a garage with rotating floor so that there is no need to back up your car.

Inside the 2-storey residence, the atmosphere is intimate even with its 100 rooms, which include 5 bedrooms, 16 baths, 3 kitchens, 2 kitchenettes, a wine grotto, a sauna, 2 elevators, a 40′ lap pool and a 20′ round indoor pool.

Lake Lugano Glass House

Situated on a hill overlooking Lake Lugano in Italy, this polygonal shaped glass house with round edges is optimized for thermal efficiency. The glass pavilion has two defined areas — mountain view and lake view. The living room, dining room and kitchen are located in the pavilion, while the bedrooms, bathrooms and garage are in the lower underground block. The use of geothermal energy, rain-water collection system and efficient low-emittance glass insulated with argon gas makes this the ultimate energy efficient home.

Belles Rives Hotel – Elegance On The French Riviera

Cube Houses Rotterdam

Designed by architect Piet Blom, these unusual looking residential Cube Houses located on Overblaak Street in Rotterdam in The Netherlands are based on the concept of “living as an urban roof”. The houses are tilted 45 degrees in a hexagon-shaped pylon. There are 38 small cubes with two super-cubes all connected together. One owner decided to open a “show cube” due to the curiosity of passers-by making this something of a tourist attraction. A Dutch hostel chain Stayokay converted the larger cubes into a hostel.
