The stairway is often the focal point of a room. Italian company Albini & Fontanot uses industrial materials such as metal and zinc to achieve sophisticated result for the stair’s handrail. Steel cable is also used for support. Solid wood steps complete the simple but elegant look of the spiral staircases.
Focus line of fireplaces by French design company Atelier Dominique Imbert is a perfect balance between style and technology for the interiors. Made from raw steel and can be suspended, wall-mounted or fixed on a base, these cleverly crafted fireplaces blend functionality with aesthetic appeal. The Piet Mondrian inspired Chromifocus add colour to the interior decor because “the pleasure of colour is a luxury that should not be denied”. The suspended Antefocus was the first fireplace ever designed by Dominique Imbert which served as the springboard for the entire Focus line.

Martinhal Beach Resort in Portugal commissioned Modus to supply furniture for their new resort. Its 120 villas are split into 3 distinctive styles. Modus worked with designer Michael Sodeau to produce an extensive collection of furniture for the resort, including bedroom furniture, sofas, lounge chairs, dining chairs, tables and credenzas in alternate finishes for each type of villa.

Los Angeles-based architect Steve Hermann is selling his “opus” — The Glass Pavilion. This contemporary 13,875-square-foot home in Montecito, California, which sits on three-and-a-half acres of land, features walls of glass, and has five bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a kitchen with a wine room and an art gallery that displays the architect’s vintage car collection. The home is listed for US$35 million.
